Hi, how can we help?

[Account Safety] What are Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) verification methods?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) verification methods serve as an added layer of security to protect your Shopee account from unauthorized actions.

Adding Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to your Shopee account helps protect your personal information from unauthorized access. When logging in, changing your password, or adding bank account information, it's important to verify your identity through 2FA to ensure the security of your account.

There are 6 types of 2FA verification methods that you may come across:

  • QR code

  • Authentication link

  • One-Time Password (OTP)

  • Password

  • ShopeePay PIN

  • Digital Token via Trusted Device

⚠️ Note

If you are unable to proceed due to a system error or reaching the maximum number of tries for a 2FA method, you may:

1. QR code

To verify via QR code, simply access the QR code scanner via the Shopee App homepage and scan the QR code generated. As a QR code expires within 10 minutes after it’s generated, you can refresh to generate a new one where necessary.

⚠️ Note

If your QR code is generated by phone, you will need to scan this QR Code using a separate phone that has your Shopee account logged in.

2. Authentication link

To verify via authentication link, select the authentication link that was sent via email/SMS/WhatsApp to your registered email address or phone number. Then, you’ll be redirected to a page where you can approve or deny the action that triggered this verification (e.g. approving/denying a login attempt from a new device).

You can resend another authentication link after 60 seconds if you did not receive the first one.

3. One-Time Password (OTP)

To verify by OTP, enter the 6-digit verification code sent via email/SMS/WhatsApp to your registered email address or phone number. You can resend a new code after 60 seconds if you do not receive the first one.

⚠️ Note

Never share your OTP with anyone, even Shopee staff.

4. Password

Your account password can also be used as a form of verification. Do note that there is a limit to the number of password verifications you can perform daily.

5. ShopeePay PIN

ShopeePay PIN can also be used as a verification method. Do note that your ShopeePay wallet may be temporarily disabled for 30 minutes if you enter the wrong PIN too many times.

If you continue to enter the wrong PIN after this, your ShopeePay may be frozen. You can reach out to Shopee Customer Service for assistance.

6. Digital Token via Digital Device

The digital token will only be prompted when logging into a second device. If the system detects that another device is already logged in, you will be asked to verify and approve the digital token.

You can also view which device(s) the token was sent to.
