The National Environment Agency (NEA) is making key revisions to and/or introducing energy efficiency requirements under the Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) and Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS). MEPS & MELS are key policies to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions from the household sector.
The revisions apply to:
Refrigerators
Clothes dryers
Casement and window air-conditioners
Split-type air-conditioners
Portable air-conditioner
Televisions
Lamps
📍 Definition:
MELS provides consumers with information regarding the energy costs of certain energy-consuming appliances.
MEPS raises the average energy efficiency of products in the market by prohibiting the supply of the least efficient models.
