Air-conditioners, Refrigerators and Clothes Dryers - Energy Labels & Tick Ratings

The National Environment Agency (NEA) is making key revisions to and/or introducing energy efficiency requirements under the Mandatory Energy Labelling Scheme (MELS) and Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS). MEPS & MELS are key policies to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions from the household sector.

The revisions apply to:

  • Refrigerators

  • Clothes dryers

  • Casement and window air-conditioners

  • Split-type air-conditioners

  • Portable air-conditioner

  • Televisions

  • Lamps

📍 Definition:

  • MELS provides consumers with information regarding the energy costs of certain energy-consuming appliances.

  • MEPS raises the average energy efficiency of products in the market by prohibiting the supply of the least efficient models.
