Flexi Travel Insurance

 

1. Who is eligible to purchase Flexi Travel Insurance?

Any persons residing in Singapore (i.e. holding a valid employment, work permit or long-term pass issued by the Singapore government) can apply for the insurance.

 

2. When does the Flexi Travel Insurance cover commence and end for each trip?

Flexi Travel Insurance cover starts from the time you leave your home or workplace in Singapore to begin the trip abroad and ends in 3 hours after your return to Singapore or on the expiry of your travel insurance, whichever is sooner.

 

3. Can I buy Flexi Travel insurance for my family members/ travel companions?

Yes, you can add additional travellers under "Fill in Travellers Info".

 

4. What adventure activities are covered under the optional Adventure & Sports Cover?

If you have selected the optional Adventure & Sports Cover, the policy covers zip-lining, bungee jumping, tandem skydiving, helicopter rides for sightseeing, hot air ballooning, canoeing or white water rafting with qualified guide (up to Grade 3), scuba diving (maximum depth of 30m) with a qualified dive instructor or dive master and with a recognized diving certification, hiking or mountaineering (up to 3,000m above sea level) and Marathon (up to 42.195km).

 

5. For rental vehicle optional cover, can any traveller rent and drive the rented vehicle?

No, it only applies to the vehicle rented by the first traveller named in the policy. However, any traveller insured in the policy can drive the rented vehicle if they are authorised drivers under the rental agreement and hold a valid driving license for the destination country.

 

6. For rental vehicle optional cover, does it cover if I rent more than 1 vehicle during the trip?

Yes, the rental vehicle optional cover allows the first traveller named in the policy to rent multiple vehicles during the trip, but not more than one at the same time. For example, if you are traveling for a 10-day trip and you rent a vehicle from day 1 to day 3 and another vehicle from day 6 to day 9, both rental vehicles will be covered. However, if more than one vehicle is rented concurrently, the rental arrangement falls outside the policy conditions and coverage may not apply.

 

7. For rental vehicle cover, does it cover me if I rent motorbikes? 

The rental vehicle optional cover only applies to cars and campervans rented by the first traveller named in the policy. Rental motorcycles are not covered

 

8. How does Cancel for any reason optional cover work? 

Cancel for any reason cover is only available for Single return trip policy. To be eligible, buy the policy with this optional cover within 14 days of your first booking for your trip, such as for a tour, transport, accommodation, or entertainment ticket. 

 

This optional cover allows you to cancel, postpone, replace a traveller, or cut short the trip for any reason, such as work, health conditions or personal emergencies, and receive partial reimbursement. For example, if you have a sudden work commitment or a personal emergency that prevents you from traveling, you can use this cover to get back up to 50% of your incurred expenses up to the sums insured.

 

However, there are situations that are not covered, such as government restrictions, war, terrorism, radioactive contamination, political risks, cyber incidents, and pandemics.

 

9. Is COVID-19 covered under Flexi Travel Insurance?

Yes, if you select the COVID-19 optional cover, you are covered for benefits such as overseas medical expenses, trip cancellation, and travel disruption due to COVID-19.

 

10. Is pre-existing medical condition covered?

Yes, with the pre-existing medical condition optional cover for Single return trips for travel duration up to 30 days. When this optional cover is selected, the specified traveller will be covered for unexpected and hefty expenses such as overseas medical expenses and emergency medical evacuation if there is a sudden deterioration of their pre-existing medical condition during the trip.

 

To be eligible, the traveller must meet all the following conditions:

 

1. Follow their doctor's advice, have no untreated medical condition or symptom related to the pre-existing condition

2. In the past 12 months, must not have visited the Emergency Department or been hospitalized more than once for the pre-existing condition, or stayed in the hospital for more than three consecutive days.

 

However, terminal illness, HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, and related conditions and mental illness are not covered.

 

11. For Pre-existing medical condition optional cover, must I provide information on all my pre-existing medical conditions or produce a doctor's report?

You do not need to furnish such information. You are eligible to apply so long as you meet the eligibility requirements set out in the policy.

 

12. How can I find my Flexi Travel Insurance policy?

You can refer to "My Policy" for your policy details. You will also receive the e-policy document via email from MSIG.

 

13. How do I request for policy amendments (i.e personal particulars or travel details) after purchase?

Please email MSIG at service@sg.msig-asia.com, and the customer service agent will assist you.

 

14. How do I cancel my Flexi Travel Insurance?

You may write it to MSG at service@sg.msig-asia.com to cancel the policy at any time. However, there will be no refund of premium once policy is issued. Any cancellation refund request will be handled as an exception.

Great Eastern Insurance 

1. When will the coverage for my travel policy start?

Pre-journey benefits cover trip cancellation, postponement and insolvency protection. For all other benefits, coverage starts after departure from Singapore.


2. Who can purchase GREAT TravelCare?

To be eligible, you must: be a Singaporean or Singapore Permanent Resident, or a foreigner with a valid Employment Pass, Work Permit, Dependant’s Pass, Student’s Pass or Long-Term Social Visit Pass residing in Singapore; be at least 18 years old at the time of purchase (only if you are the applicant); not be travelling against the advice of a qualified medical practitioner or for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment; and have bought the policy before leaving Singapore for your trip.

3. What is the maximum period of coverage for an overseas trip? 
For a Single Trip Policy: 182 consecutive days.
For an Annual Multi-Trip Policy: 90 consecutive days.

4. Can I purchase travel insurance if I am already overseas?

No. You must purchase your travel insurance before setting off for your overseas trip from Singapore. GE strongly encourages early purchase as the policy also provides pre-journey coverage.


5. I’m travelling to more than one country during my trip. Can I still get a policy?
Yes. Please select all destinations on your itinerary.

6. What is the age limit for GREAT TravelCare?
For single trip policy, the insured person must be at least 1 month old to 99 years old.
For annual multi-trip policy, the insured person must be at least 1 month old to 80 years old for new applications.

7. What do I indicate as the period of insurance?
You should indicate the start date and end date of your trip for the insurance period. The start date and end date are based on Singapore time. The start date is the day you depart from Singapore, and the end date is the day you arrive back in Singapore.

8. If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore (MFA) issues a travel advisory against travelling to my destination country, am I still covered under GREAT TravelCare?
No. Travelling against a travel advisory issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) is not covered under GREAT TravelCare.

9. Am I covered if I purchase GREAT TravelCare after a natural disaster has already been reported by the media?
Any claims arising from a known event will not be covered unless you purchased the policy before the known event was publicised or reported by the media, or through travel advice issued by an authority, before you took out the policy.

10. If I am travelling overseas to seek medical treatment, can I take up travel insurance?
No. The policy covers people travelling overseas for business or holiday. It is not intended to cover people travelling to seek medical treatment. 

11. If I am only travelling one-way, will I be able to purchase travel insurance?
Yes. Please select one-way trip. Coverage will cease when you arrive at your place of residence or workplace in the destination country within 4 days, or 3 hours after you have cleared immigration in the destination country, whichever is earlier.

12. Who is considered Family under GREAT TravelCare?
For a single-trip or one-way policy, family means: you and your husband, wife or unmarried partner, and all your biological or legally adopted children or grandchildren, who are travelling from and back to Singapore together at the same time. For an annual multi-trip policy, family means: you and your husband, wife or unmarried partner, and all your biological or legally adopted children. They do not need to travel together on each trip, but any child below 10 years old must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian for the whole trip.

13. Can I purchase GREAT TravelCare for my child who is traveling on a student exchange programme or field trip?
Yes. Children below 18 years old can apply under individual cover, provided the application is made in the parent’s or adult guardian’s name. Children below 10 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the entire trip. The maximum period of cover for a student exchange programme or field trip is 182 consecutive days for a single-trip policy and 90 consecutive days for an annual multi-trip policy.

14. Will my sports equipment be covered if I bring it on my trip?
Yes. Platinum plan holders enjoy sports equipment coverage. This covers loss of or damage to sports equipment caused by an accident or theft during the overseas trip.

15. Are any countries excluded from coverage?
Yes. GREAT TravelCare does not cover travel in, to, or through countries on the UN sanction list and countries where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore advises against travelling.
